MDPRD Press Release: REDLAND FESTIVAL RETURNS TO THE FRUIT & SPICE PARK FOR ITS 33RD YEAR

( MIAMI , December 3, 2010) - Celebrate the New Year at the 33rd Annual Redland Festival, January 9-10, 2010, at the Fruit & Spice Park , 24801 SW 187th Avenue in Homestead .
The Redland Festival, a Fruit & Spice Park staple event that draws crowds in the thousands, will have its traditional natural arts & crafts, over 20 nurseries selling native plants and fruit trees, a children's area, as well as a variety of entertainment for the young and old alike.
Featured entertainers performing both on stage and impromptu throughout the park include Merlina the magician and bilingual story teller bringing her stories to life with audience participation and interaction; Redland Festival returning favorites Ed & Geraldine Berbaum performing old-time musicals and inviting children to join them in playing musical rhythm instruments; David Ballard performing comedy variety entertainment using puppets and clowns; and renowned guitarist James Kelly performing traditional Irish music.
The Natural Selections of South Florida, with host and owner Joseph Wasilewski, will conduct live animal shows prompting educational discussion and teaching the audience about the environmental purpose of native Florida animals. Animals featured include alligators, crocodiles, venomous and non-venomous snakes, native and snapping turtles, and other interesting creatures.

The Fruit & Spice Park , operated by Miami-Dade Park & Recreation Department, grows more than 500 varieties of sub-tropical fruits, herbs, spices, vegetables and nuts from around the world on 39 lush acres in the agricultural Redland. The park offers daily botanical tours, fruit tasting and naturalist-led workshops.

The Redland Fruit and Spice Park hosted the Redland Herbal Fest, Jan 12th & 13th. The society sold donate potted herbs, herbal products and crafts, cookies, brownies, etc at our booth. We had a great turnout and gained several new members.
