The Great GREEN Family Festival, November 15 and 16, 2008

Great Green Family Festival 

The Redland Evening Herb Society and the Fruit and Spice Park are co-sponsoring a new event, the Great GREEN Family Festival, on November 15 and 16, 2008! The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of simple, green-living practices, products and services that local families can put into use in their homes and community. As the premier green event in Miami-Dade county, we anticipate an attendance of five to ten thousand people.

We want you to join us! We are looking for local, sustainable, and environmentally responsible vendors and exhibitors to participate in the following categories:

February 3: Florida Keys  Safari. The group will tour public and private gardens  of the Keys and see Key  deer in their native habitat.  8am departure from FSP.  $40.

February 24: Propagation with Chris Rollins. Learn  grafting, air layering, planting and seeding. 10am-5pm.  $40 includes tree for grafting & taking home.


March 2: Polynesian Luau.  Fundraiser benefits the Fruit  & Spice Park. Hors   d’ouevers & wine tasting at  6:30pm, dinner at 7:30pm. $50 per ticket, $450 for tables of 10.

January 13-14: Redland Festival. Renamed from the  Natural Arts Festival, this is  one of the biggest Park events. Booths offering  plants, crafts and shows will  be open from 10am-5pm.  Admission is $6, under 12 free.

Tropical Ice  Cream Making. 10am-1pm,  $25.

January 20: Five week Cake Making & Design workshop begins. Classes meet five consecutive Saturdays from 10am-2pm. $225 includes all sessions and a baking kit.

Two-day event includes lectures and workshops on wellness through the wonderful world of herb and spices.

(Miami-Dade County, Fl.) – “Think Natural Health – An Herbal Wellness Weekend, A weekend to celebrate health, wellness, and well being using herbs and spice as your main medicine cabinet will take place Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9, 2006, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187 Avenue in Homestead.  

Lecture and workshop topics include: “The value of Complementary Medicine”, “Weight Loss with Acupuncture”, “Environmental Health- How to Create a non-toxic Environment”, “ Aroma Therapy as Complementary Medicine”, “Healing Teas – Herbal Medicine, Cancer and Qi-Gong and Herbal Aphrodisiacs”. There is also an Aroma Therapy session for children.  

Concessions include an array of natural products, crafts, fresh herbs, organic fruit & vegetables, all natural tropical fruit ice cream, and gourmet salads.  Unwind with yoga, meditation, chair massage, gi-gong, Tai-Chi, Reiki, Marital Arts or a leisurely stroll through the exotic tropical Fruit & Spice Park.

If cooking is your forte, make an all natural dessert (bring recipe) for the cooking contest.  Prizes will be awarded.

The Fruit & Spice Park, established by Miami-Dade County Parks, grows more than 500 varieties of sub-tropical fruit, herbs, spices, vegetables and nuts from around the world on 35 lush acres in the agricultural Redlands.  The park offers daily botanical tours, fruit tasting and naturalist-led workshops.

Fruit & Spice Park to Offer Classes on the Use of Herbs in Aromatherapy

(MIAMI) —Miami-Dade Parks is offering a series of classes on the various uses and benefits of herbs in aromatherapy from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187 Avenue in Homestead beginning Thursday January 26, 2006.

The first class offers an introduction to the history and modern uses of herbs in aromatherapy. Other classes feature the use of aromatherapy in alternative preventive medicine, a hands-on lab for blending techniques and the benefits of herbal teas.
