July Club Announcements and Member Exchange

Many thanks to Joe & Helen Mandoeng for the trays of plants they brought to the May meeting for members to take home.

Several club topics were brought up at the meeting following Miguel’s presentation. Fundraising was a huge topic, involving both the website and cookbook (highlighted below). Meeting format changes were also discussed, with no formal changes at the moment.

The website is evolving and is in need of member input! We need submissions for linking to other websites, article ideas, things you’d like to see, etc. A member directory is also taking form, and website sponsorships are available to those with the inclination. We would also like to offer club
members a forum to buy, sell or trade their skills or wares online.

To have your thoughts or self posted in cyberspace, contact Kristin Jayd-Jimenez at jaydedj@mac.com or Tao Semko at info@umaatantra.com. Visit the website at www.REHSonline.com.

Another project in the works is the cookbook, which has a rapidly approaching deadline. To become a part of The Tasting Table, submit your tried and true recipes to:

Mail: REHS Cookbook,
c/o Fruit & Spice Park,
24810 S.W. 187 Ave.,
Homestead, FL 33031

Email to Leila Barnes: leiwai@adelphia.net
Email to Leah Sherman: shermlea@aol.com
Email to Tracy Bossinger: inariargenteus@gmail.com

The newsletter submission deadline for the August issue is July 20, 2006.
Information of all kinds is welcome. We are also still seeking gardeners who would like to be profiled in “How Does Your Garden Grow.” Email to the newsletter, or call 305-444-5612. If you would like to receive the newsletter via email, please let me know by sending an email to:
inariargenteus@gmail.com. To avoid spam, there will be no emailing of newsletters without an invitation to do so. This is your space to post items for sale, trade, or things you are seeking.

Leah got an email from Hana Drahasova, who many will remember from when she visited last year from Prague. She reports a very long, snowy winter (some snow was still present when she wrote on April 18th), and some flooding as the snows melted. She also saw much evidence of damage to apple orchards from hungry hares during the winter. Hana also saw a travel documentary on Florida filmed shortly after Wilma, and was disappointed that no mention was made of agricultural ventures, “only beaches, night life and tourists”. She thinks of us fondly and wishes us the best.
